INTRODUCTION :
Poleramma is the Village guardian goddess, and she is mostly worshiped by the people in Andhra Pradesh. Poleramma is an incarnation of Ma Shakti Devi, and she is worshiped since ancient times. As per legend, she was born in a village at Andhra Pradesh in a pious Telugu family, and her brother is Pothuraju, who is also considered as a guardian god by the devotees of Ma Poleramma.
Usually her shrine would be a small one, and it would be situated only in the outside of the village, and it would be constructed with only ordinary stones, since the great divine mother, doesn’t want to enjoy any other comforts in her temple. But even then, her staunch devotees would adorn her with silk saris during the Aadi month, and also would offer non vegetarian food as a token of showing their great respects to her. Ma Poleramma is considered to be the reliever of diseases like smallpox, chicken pox and measles and she is also worshiped to cure dreaded virus diseases, and from various other diseases. She is also considered to be the sister of Muthu Mariamman, a form of Shakti, worshiped by the devotees of Tamil Nadu. Poleramma is worshipped by her devotees by chanting her 100 names, and they would perform puja and abhishekham to the holy goddess, especially during festival days, and on Tuesdays and Fridays. Parvati Devi, the consort of Lord Shiva is known by various other names like Durga, Shakti and Chamundi, had taken avatars in various places of India. Among her innumerable avatars, Ma Poleramma avatar is considered as very noble one.
Ma Poleramma is worshipped by the people to get rid from the evil effects of the planetary positions, and also by worshipping her, bad thoughts would not arise in the minds of the devotees, and her male devotees, would consider all the females as the incarnations of Ma Shakti Devi.
