Sri Padmanabha Theertha

INTRODUCTION :

Sri Padmanabha Teertha is the direct disciple of Sri Madhwacharya. He was a great scholar and was well versed in the Dvaita principles of Sree Madhwacharya.

Birth and Sanyasa

According to Madhwa Vijaya, Padmanabha, was born as Shobhanabhatta, and who was a great scholar. The location of his birth is said to be in the region of North Karnataka. After being won over by Madhwa in a debate, and since he is well known for his good knowledge and good qualities, he has  succeeded Sri Madhwacharya and became the pontiff  of Sri Uttaradi Math.

He adopted Dvaita and was subsequently asked by Madhwa to spread the dvaita philosophy across the world.  After his death in 1324, he was placed at Nava Brindavana near Hampi. After that, his disciple Narahari Tirtha succeeded him as the pontiff.

IMPORTANCE

Sri Padmanabha Teertha is a great Scholar, and was very much interested in Hindu’s holy books such as Veda, Mahabharata and Puranas.
He was very much impressed by the teachings of Sri Madhwacharya and he used to compare the works of Sri Madhwacharya to a divine tree Kalpavriksha, capable of fulfilling all of one's desires. He was very much impressed with the works of Sri Madhwacharya and he tells that studying the works of Sri Madhwacharya is beyond words and thoughts.

He was the first to write a commentary, on the Bhasya of Sri Madhwacharya, which brings out the true meaning of the Bhasya. Sri Jayateertha, honors this great saint in his Sriman Nyaya Sudha.

15 extra ordinary works were written by him, most of which are commentaries on the works of Madhwa.

CONCLUSION

He has done many miracles during his period and cured the diseases of his devotees. Even after leaving his body in this world, he is still answering to the prayers of his devotees at Nava Brindavan,Karnataka. Even now he is blessing his devotees from his brindavan and gives them enough energy and courage in their life and make them to live happily. Being the direct disciple of Madhwacharya, during his period, he lived his life in a fulfilled manner. His Brindavan is situated at Hampi Rd, Anegundi, Karnataka 583227. It is must for us to visit his nava brindavana along with eight other Madhwa Saints brindava and to seek blessings from all of them.Let us pray to him for our well being and chant his nama “OM SREE PADMANABHA THEERTHARE NAMAHA”.
