INTRODUCTION :
Thilakavathiyar (7th century AD) was a great Shiva devotee and she was born in a Vellalar family in a village in Tamilnadu. Her parents were also ardent devotees of Lord Shiva, and her brother was Marulneekkiyar, who was later known as Thirunavukarasar. She was very religious, and used to regularly worship Lord Shiva in the temples and at her home. She also offered food to the poor people along with her family on a daily basis.
At her teenage, she got married with Sri Kalipagai, who was the army chief of the Pallava King. He was cunningly killed by the enemy army forces during a battle. Due to that, Thilagavathy decided to end up her life, but she was stopped from doing the act by her only brother, who was a small child at that time. For the sake of her brother, she lived as a widow throughout her life, and never got remarried. She was praised for her sincere devotion on Lord Shiva and after her death she has reached the abode of Lord Shiva, the Kailasa.
Let us worship the divine mother and be blessed.
