DUTIES OF THE DEITIES

INTRODUCTION :

The supreme Lord is the head of the entire universe. He performs many activities and controls the living beings in the entire universe. He also shares his duties to the divine demi gods by giving them super natural powers, and making them to discharge their duties in a proper manner. The earth goddess, Mata Bhudevi is the divine earth mother, and she improves the fertility in the earth, and also absorbs the rain water, and makes the crops to grow properly. She is considered as the Kuladevi of the farmers, since through her great help only, the farmers are able to properly harvest their crops.

Lord Brahma is creating all the living beings in the earth, and putting the fate on their heads. He is the creator god, who dutifully discharges his creation duties based on the karmic deeds of the living beings in the earth. Mata Saraswati is the education goddess, and she gives good knowledge to those who worships her, and who are good in nature. Lord Shiva and Shakti are the divine parents of the mortal and the immortals, in the earth and in the heaven. Through their great powers they are controlling the functions of the earth and the divine worlds in the heaven.

Lord Vishnu is the protector god who protects us from our problems, and gives good courage, wisdom, good health and mental peacefulness. Mata Lakshmi Devi is the goddess of wealth, and those who sincerely worships her, would get good wealth, name and fame. Child devotees like Vinayaka, Muruga and Ayyappan, and avatars like Veerabhadra, Kalabhairava and Muneeswaran are formed from the powers of the Divine gods, and they are safeguarding their devotees throughout their life. Apart from the main gods and goddesses, lot of divine demi gods and goddesses are also there. Demi gods like Indra, Varuna, Vayu, Agni, Kubera, Yama, Nirudhi and the nine planets are very powerful, and they are ready to reduce our burdens in our life. Consorts of the demi gods are known as demi goddesses and they contain great powers, and they are considered as the incarnations of Mata Parvati Devi.

All the demi gods are executing their tasks in a wonderful manner. Lord Vayu is the wind god, who gives good breeze, and through him only we are able to breathe. Lord Agni is the Fire god, and without his help, we can’t cook and we cannot light the lamps in our house and in the temples. Lord Varuna is the ocean god, and he is also considered as the rain god, and he gives rain along with Lord Indra, through his supreme powers.  Kubera is the god of wealth, and he gives wealth for us along with Mata Lakshmi Devi.

Lord Indra is the god of the demi gods, and he contains great powers, and gives good health and sound mental power. Yama is the death god, and most of us would not be interested to welcome him. But the great yogis and saints are ready to leave their life at any time, since they have already surrendered at the feet of the almighty.

The great saints like Guru Raghavendra Swamy, Sri Shirdi Baba and Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa had been sent by the almighty to bless us, protect us and to remain with us for ever. They give food during the times of hunger and quench our thirst by giving water, and they are considered as the divine cow Kamadhenu, who is the giver of all kinds of prosperities to us.

Apart from the divine demi gods, goddesses and saints, lot of guardian and village deities are there. Our Kula Devi/ Deva must be worshipped by us sincerely, since they are considered as our ancestors. Small children would be worshipping their Ishta Deva/Devata like Vinayaka, Muruga, Krishna and Ayyappan, and they get great pleasure in worshipping them. Some children would even do puja in their homes to the deities by calling their friends and would also offer the Holy Prasad to them, after the completion of the puja, which would be usually cooked by their mothers.

The great sages like Vasishta, Vishwamitra and Agastiya can also be worshipped to get enlightenment in our life.

According to me, though there are lot of deities, the almighty is the only one, who is having supreme power, and who is taking different forms, to discharge his duties in a proper manner.
