INTRODUCTION
Thepperumanllur is located a few kilometres far away from Kumbakonam. In this place, there is a famous temple known as Sri Rudraksheswarar Temple, and here Lord Shiva is worshipped as Lord Rudraksheswarar and Ma Parvati is worshipped as Veda Nayaki. The temple opening timings are: Between 7 to 12 and Between 5 to 9.
It is regarded that Lord Siva is in a happy state at this temple, and those who are not interested to take rebirth alone would be able to visit this temple. In other words, without the grace of Lord Siva, we cannot visit this temple. I have visited this wonderful Shiva Temple during August 2022. Lord Shiva is also called as Viswanathar, since he gives salvation to the devotees similar to the Kasi Viswanathar. Shiva Purana describes the significance of this temple.
At the present place of this temple, once Lord Shiva had controlled the arrogance attitude of Lord Shani Bhagavan, by taking the Bhairava Avatar, Sage Makaranda took the form of a Makaranda flower and worshipped Lord Shiva at this auspicious place. Rishi Agastyar has also visited this place. As per legend, worshipping Lord Shiva at this temple is considered equivalent of worshipping all the 12 Jyotirlingam temples in India. The Shiva Lingam is covered with holy rudrakshams, and archanai is done with rudrakshams.
It is said that even during the time of deluge (pralayam), this place would remain unaffected. In this place Lord Siva took the full divine form also called as Viswaroopam, in order to protect the entire universe. This is a temple, where Vedas are given great respect. Even till today, Ma Vedanayaki Amman is said to be continuously chanting the Vedas for the benefit of universal goodness. This temple was built by the Cholas, and Navaratri and Shivaratri festival are being celebrated in a grand manner.
