Namacharya - Disciple Of Guru Ramanujacharya

Introduction

Namacharya is a great devotee of Lord Ranganathaswamy of Srirangam. He was born and brought up at Srirangam. He was a close disciple of Sri Ramanuja, and he is considered to be an aspect of the Holy Thirumann, NAMAM of Lord Vishnu. He used to recite to the verses from the sacred Vaishnavite Text, Nalayira Divya Prabhandam on a daily basis, and rendered great divine service by plucking flowers from the temple garden, and used to adorn it to Lord Ranganatha.

It is also believed that Namacharya used to converse with Lord Ranganatha regularly and also tried his level best to reduce the problems of the devotees of Lord Ranganatha. He didn’t marry, and throughout his life he lived as a strict bachelor. Once, when he was sick, the Lord himself had approached him to his place in the form of a young boy and helped him by giving medicines and other food items to him.

As per the divine instructions of Lord Ranaganatha, Namacharya served very well to his Guru Sri Ramanujacharya, and also helped him to spread the “VISHNU BHAKTI”, amongst the masses. Similar to his Guru Sri Ramanuja, Namacharya also wrote several spiritual texts in sanskrit, such as bhasya on the Brahma Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita. According to Sri Namacharya, devotion to a personal God acts as a means to attain spiritual liberation.
