Introduction
Vanchinadha Swamy temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and it is located in Srivanchiyam, Tiruvarur District, Tamil Nadu. In this temple, Lord Shiva is worshiped as Sri Vanchinadha Swamy, in the form of lingam, and Ma Parvati is worshipped as Mangalambigai Amman. Vanchinadha Swamy was praised in the Shaivite Holy Text, Tevaram, and this temple was sanctified by ancient Nayanar Saints.
Apart from the main shrines, this temple houses several other shrines. The temple follows six daily rituals from 6:00 a.m. to 9 p.m., and twelve yearly festivals including Masi Magam festival which is being grandly celebrated.
This temple is believed to have been constructed by the Cholas during 11th century, and subsequently it was renovated and repaired by Vijayanagar rulers. As per ancient legend, once Ma Lakshmi, left Vaikunta, came to the earth and worshipped Lord Shiva. Shiva was pleased with her devotion and hence he made the divine couple Lakshmi and Vishnu to unite with each other. Couples who are separated due to quarrels are advised to visit this temple. Those who visit this temple would never get death related fear, and they need not afraid of Lord Yama!
The sacred tree of this temple is Sandalwood tree, and the sacred tank of the temple is known as GuptaGangai. It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams. There is a separate shrine dedicated for Lord Yama, at this temple, and he can be seen along with his divine accountant Lord Chitragupta. Srivanchiyam is considered equivalent to the sacred place Kasi. I have once visited this wonderful temple, and I had got excited after having the darshan of the deities present in this temple.
There are numerous temples situated throughout India, and visiting all the temples is highly impossible. Human life cannot be wasted, and it must be properly utilised. Devotees must make some savings out of their own earnings, and it must be utilised exclusively for undergoing religious pilgrimages. Visiting the sacred temples would cleanse our sins, purifies our soul, removes our diseases, and it would create great happiness in our lives.
Hence let’s keep the habit of visiting the famous temples, like Sri Vanchiyam Temple, at least once in a year.
