Sri Kanchi Mahaswamigal Tapovanam is situated in Govindapuram is a wonderful Dhyana Mandapam dedicated to Sri Kanchi Mahaswamigal. Those who are traveling near Kumbakonam, must visit Mahaswamigal shrine at Govindapuram and then they can visit all other holy places located at Govindapuram.
Sri Mahaswami himself has chosen Govindpuram which is considered as a sacred place similar to the Holy Srisailam.
Govindpuram is a sacred place where Srimad Bhagavannama Bodhendral had his Brindavana.
Tapovanam is situated in Govindapuram – near Tiruvidaimarudur in Thanjavur district – and is close to the Bodhendral Matha and also close to the Rukmini sametha Sri Pandurangan temple. The divine form of Sri Mahaswami who is in a seated posture has been sculpted in green stone. A small Gosala has also been established. We can also feed fruits and greens to Gomathas, which is considered to be a highly auspicious act. A small mantapa is adorned by the utsava idols of Kanchi Sri Mahaswami, Sri Vyasa Ganapati and Sri Kamakshi. A shrine is also established to house Dakshina Kali, as is a pond. It is known to all that Sri Mettur Swami, who received sanyasa directly from Sri Mahaswami and who was personally overseeing the performance of the Nithya puja and abhisheka entered his brindavana here.
Every year during all the four navaratris – Sarada Navaratri, Vasantha Navaratri, Ashada Navaratri and Shyamala Navaratri – Navaavarna puja is performed at Tapovanam. This apart every year Sri Mahaswami’s jayanti is celebrated in the month of Vaikasi (mid-May to mid-June) on the day of the anusha star, and samvatsara abhisheka in the month of Aani (mid-June to mid-July), on the day of the anusha star. Vyasa puja is celebrated grandly every year on Gurupoornima day.
Darsan timings: Morning: 7 am to 12 in the afternoon & Evening: 4pm to 8pm.
I have got the opportunity to visit Mahaperiya Shrine at Govindapuram during every month, since I am staying only a few kms far away from Govindapuram.
SONGS IN PRAISE OF SRI KANCHI MAHA SWAMIGAL
CHANDRASHEKARAM SRI CHANDRASHEKARAM GURU KRIPAKARAM SRI CHANDRASHEKARAM.
You are the key person in spreading the Sanatana Dharma throughout the country, and you are well versed with the Vedas, Puranas, Spiritual texts, and Mantras of various deities.
You have travelled all over India, and spread the spiritual knowledge among the people. Due to your holiness, even people who were belonged to other religions also became your devotees.
You have dedicated your life in the worship of Kamakshi Amman in Shri Kamakshi Amman temple, Kanchipuram. You have advised your followers and devotees to chant and write the holy name “RAMA”, in order to remove their bad karmas.
Devotees from all parts of India were impressed by the way of your teachings and worshipped you. Your sweet spiritual speeches were aimed at invoking spirituality even among the common people.
Though you have left us from your physical body, yet you are still living with us in our hearts. Your books and spiritual discourses will help many of your devotees to lead towards spiritual path, and to live their life in a proper manner. You are a great and a noble saint, who was free from sins.
Hey Gurunatha, you have meditated in Kanchi Mutt for many days for our well-being, even without having proper food and water, and you have tolerated the sufferings of your devotees, and due to that, you have attained great spiritual enlightenment.
During your stay at Kanchi Mutt, most of your precious devotees had fed food for you, and even when you refuse to have it, but, the holy mother, Ma Balaambiga had forcibly fed the food to you from her own tender hands.
For some of your sincere devotees, you have appeared in the form of Child Shiva (Bala Sivan), and as Ma Balaambiga. Likewise, some of your staunch devotees had attained great spiritual satisfaction when you touched their head, for three times, and due to that, they were able to see the presence of Lord Shiva and Shakti within their soul itself.
Similar to Lord Dakshinamoorthy, you have clarified the spiritual doubts of many devotees, even without opening your mouth. You have also admitted the foreigners and the lower-class people into your Mutt and properly took care of them by providing sufficient food and water to them with great love and affection.
You have showed your kindness even to the birds and animals like dogs, cows and peacocks, and sometimes you have also provided food to them from your own hands.
I OFFER MY HUMBLE SALUTATIONS TO MY WORSHIPFUL HOLY GURU SRI KANCHI MAHA SWAMIGAL.
