Sri Varahaswamy Temple, also called Sri Bhu Varahaswamy Temple, is an excellent temple dedicated to Lord Varaha, and it is situated at Tirumala in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The temple is situated nearby Sri Venkateshvara Temple, Tirumala. This temple is believed to be an ancient one, and this temple was visited by saints like Vyasaraja, Ramanuja and Guru Raghavendra.
As per ancient legend, after protecting the earth goddess, Ma Bhudevi from the Demon Hiranyaksha, Lord Vishnu's boar avatar Varaha permanently settled down on this hill, near the banks of the famous temple pond Swami Pushkarini. Hence Tirumala Hills is also known to be Adi Varaha Kshetra. It is believed that Lord Varaha donated land to Lord Venkateshvara on his humble request. As a token of showing his gratitude on Lord Varaha, Lord Venkateshvara offered the right of first puja and Prasad (food offering) to Varaha before they were offered to him. This is being followed as a practice still today.
Devotees are supposed to have the darshana of Varaha before visiting the shrine of Lord Venkateshvara. It is believed that the Holy Yatra to Tirumala will not come to an end, without having the darshana of Lord Varaha Swamy,
The temple was renovated in the year 1535 AD. The temple constitutes a part of Tirumala Venkateshvara Temple and it is being ably administered by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.
Daily rituals are being properly held. Annual brahmotsavams, Vaikuntha Ekadashi, Rathasaptami, and Varaha Jayanti are also wonderfully celebrated.
SONGS IN PRAISE OF LORD VARAHA SWAMY
I praise and praise Lord Varaha Swamy who is in the form of a Divine boar, who contains a strong body, who can be seen affectionately embracing his lovely consort Ma Bhudevi by keeping her on his lap.
I praise and praise Lord Varaha Swamy, who is permanently seated in the holy Tirumala Hills, who is said to be the elder brother of Lord Venkateswara, who contains great powers, who acts as a guardian to Lord Venkateswara, and he is the wire-puller of the entire universe.
I praise and praise Lord Varaha, who is also known as Sri Bhuvaraha, who contains a very bright face, who appears in dark colour, who contains strong teeth, who looks very handsome, who offers food to the devotees of Tirumala, and he is the one, who is the perfect avatar of Lord Vishnu.
I praise and praise Lord Varaha, who wore a big crown on his head, who looks very gigantic, who gives great pleasure to his devotees, who is praised by all gods and goddesses, who is capable of destroying the evil demons with his scissors like teeth, who is darling to his consort Ma Bhudevi.
I praise and praise Lord Varaha, whose sound covers the entire earth, whose favourite food is millets, pulses and horse gram. Who is very precious to us, who accepts even a small offering from his devotees wilfully and grants big boons to them.
I praise and praise Lord Varaha, whose powers increases day by day, who is considered to be equivalent to Lord Shiva, whose powers cannot be imagined by anyone, whose face appears with a divine smile, whose radiance is equivalent to millions and millions of suns, who wears nice ornaments and wonderful garments, who is the ‘GURU’ among the gods.
I praise and praise Lord Varaha, who is capable of even changing our fate, who grants all sorts of prosperity to his devotees, who is a ‘GEM’ among all gods, who is so sweet to his sincere devotees, who is very kind to us, who instantly fulfils the dreams of his devotees, who prevents quarrels and fights between the couples, and grants longevity to them, who makes impossible things into possible, and he is the one, who is the best saviour for us in this difficult ‘KALIYUGA’.
