INTRODUCTION :
Rishi Somasrava, was the priest of Janamejaya, and he was the son of Rishi Srutasrava. He helped Janamejaya towards conducting snake sacrifice. Rishi Somasrava was lived during the Dwapara Yuga, and he was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu and after performing severe penance on Vishnu in the Himalayas, he got great boons from the Lord.
He has got many disciples, and he was an expert in Vedic Subjects and all other Divine Scriptures. He was well known for his simplicity, generosity and kindness. Even though, he was a great rishi, he was very polite, and always showed love and affection over others. He also advised Janamejaya to stop the snake sacrifice, but Janamejaya didn’t hear his words, and ordered him to continue the yagna. But afterwards, due to the interference of Rishi Astika, son of Mata Manasa Devi, the yagna was stopped. It is believed that Somasrava’s mother was a Snake princess, and she belonged to the Snake Kingdom, situated in the Patala Loka. And after his death, due to his spiritual powers, he went to the Patala Loka, and permanently stayed along with his mother.
Let us worship the great rishi and be blessed.
